The city’s administration has announced a two-day closure of the capital’s schools, colleges, and workplaces. This disruption will occur on Monday and Tuesday, July 31 and August 1. It’s crucial to note that this halt doesn’t discriminate between public or private educational institutions nor spare any commercial bodies. From companies to markets, shops, and even commercial banks – all will remain shut during this period.
This exceptional step has been taken due to an important visit. The distinguished guest is He Lifeng, currently serving as the Vice Premier of China. His role is not limited to the Vice Premier alone, as he is also an influential member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party.
Mr. Lifeng, who is landing in Pakistan on July 30 and staying till August 1, will be here as a Special Envoy of President Xi Jinping. His itinerary includes attending the momentous celebrations marking the 10th anniversary of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). He is also scheduled to engage in critical discussions with Pakistan’s President and Prime Minister.
Although temporarily disruptive, the closure signifies the high regard with which Pakistan holds its ties with China. It also highlights the importance of Vice Premier Lifeng’s visit and the bilateral conversations that are expected to take place.
