Today is a solemn and important day in Pakistan as it marks the 9th day of Muharram. This day is dedicated to remembering the courageous sacrifices made by Hazrat Imam Hussain (R.A), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and his companions. Their lives were tragically lost in the Battle of Karbala in Iraq in the year 680 AD (61 AH). Imam Hussain (R.A) stood up to Yazid’s rule and did not pledge his allegiance, which led to this conflict.
In towns and cities all over Pakistan, processions will take place to honor these martyrs. These processions, known as Taziya, Alam, and Zuljanah, are a way for people to mourn and express their sorrow. This is often done through Nohas and marsiayas, special forms of mourning.
Security has been boosted to make sure everyone who takes part in these processions can do so safely. You’ll see more police officers, rangers, and scouts around, especially along the routes of the processions.
In some parts of the country, such as Karachi, Islamabad, and 14 districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, mobile phone services will be put on hold for a bit. This is to help maintain security and ensure everything goes smoothly. Traffic plans have also been put into place to help keep the peace during these two important days of Muharram.
